Waiting on Wednesday (119): Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes
Publisher: Razorbill
Publish Date: December 11, 2012

Publisher Description
In a land where magic has been forgotten but peace has reigned for centuries, a deadly unrest is simmering. Three kingdoms grapple for power--brutally transforming their subjects' lives in the process. Amidst betrayals, bargains, and battles, four young people find their fates forever intertwined:

Cleo: A princess raised in luxury must embark on a rough and treacherous journey into enemy territory in search of a magic long thought extinct.

Jonas: Enraged at injustice, a rebel lashes out against the forces of oppression that have kept his country impoverished--and finds himself the leader of a people's revolution centuries in the making.

Lucia: A girl adopted at birth into a royal family discovers the truth about her past--and the supernatural legacy she is destined to wield.

Magnus: Bred for aggression and trained to conquer, a firstborn son begins to realize that the heart can be more lethal than the sword...

The only outcome that's certain is that kingdoms will fall. Who will emerge triumphant when all they know has collapsed?

Why Jessica wants to read this:  This sounds like it could be an epic read.  I don't know what the time period is, but it sounds a bit historical and with magic thrown in - I'm there!

  3. Classic Fantasy sounds like a good fit! It kind of reminds me of Maria V. Snyder's type of books! Which I absolutely LOVE! If you haven't checked her books out yet you should! They are in that same kind of realm where you know it's the past but magic exists!

I also see that there's 2 guy and 2 gals! Wondering what kind of messed up love triangles would be in there!

    Nice pick!

  6. It's a high fantasy with medieval influences but is a place all on it's own. I've started it but haven't gotten too far into yet. It's more mature/darker than other YA high fantasies I've read so it's taking a little adjusting on my part.

  7. I love the sound of this one too-I am wondering if it is told through four alternating perspectives, which I would love or what kind of narration it has.
