Waiting on Wednesday (57): The Day Before

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

The Day BeforeThe Day Before by Lisa Schroeder due out June 28, 2011 from Simon Pulse.

Book Description
Sometimes there's no turning back.
Amber's life is spinning out of control. All she wants is to turn up the volume on her iPod until all of the demands of her family and friends fade away. So she sneaks off to the beach to spend a day by herself.

Then Amber meets Cade. Their attraction is instant, and Amber can tell that he's also looking for an escape. Together they decide to share a perfect day: no pasts, no fears, no regrets.

The more time that Amber spends with Cade, the more she's drawn to him. And the more she's troubled by his darkness. Because Cade's not just living in the now--he's living each moment like it's his last.

Why Jessica Wants to Read It
It looks like a love lost kind of a book to me.  I know it will probably make me cry, but I'm willing to deal with that for a wonderfully, heartbreaking love story.

Waiting on Wednesday (56): American Vampire Vol 2

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

American Vampire Vol. 2American Vampire Vol. 2 by Scott Snyder and Rafael Albuquereque due out May 31, 2011 from Vertigo.
Book Description
While trafficking in a bestselling sub-genre, AMERICAN VAMPIRE introduces a new strain of vampire — a more muscular and vicious species, born of the American West.
It’s Las Vegas circa 1935, and Skinner Sweet and our gal Pearl are about to learn the hard way that the bloodsuckers in Hollywood were nothing compared to what awaits them in Sin City.

In just a few short years, young police Chief Cash McCogan has watched his native city of Las Vegas go from cow-town to wild, glittering boomtown. And when the bodies of prominent businessmen start showing up drained of blood, Chief McCogan finds himself facing a threat much darker and deadlier than anything he could have imagined . . . and the only sure bet in town is that Skinner and Pearl are right in the thick of it.

Why Chris Wants to Read It
I've read the first volume and it was amazing.  The art is great and the story flows well.

Waiting on Wednesday (55): Ashes, Ashes

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Ashes, AshesAshes, Ashes by Jo Treggiari due out June 1, 2011 from Scholastic Press.

Book Description
A thrilling tale of adventure, romance, and one girl's unyielding courage through the darkest of nightmares.
Epidemics, floods, droughts--for sixteen-year-old Lucy, the end of the world came and went, taking 99% of the population with it. As the weather continues to rage out of control, and Sweepers clean the streets of plague victims, Lucy survives alone in the wilds of Central Park. But when she's rescued from a pack of hunting dogs by a mysterious boy named Aidan, she reluctantly realizes she can't continue on her own. She joins his band of survivors, yet, a new danger awaits her: the Sweepers are looking for her. There's something special about Lucy, and they will stop at nothing to have her.

About the Author
Jo Treggiari was born in London, England, and raised in Ottawa, Ontario. Her first attempts at writing were when she started revising classic fairy tales at age eight. Jo spent several years in San Francisco, where she trained as a boxer, wrote for punk magazines, and owned her own record label.

She now lives in Nova Scotia, Canada , with her husband and their children, and still enjoys shadowboxing when she isn't working at her local bookstore.

Why Jessica Wants To Read It
It's an after the end of the world book and that intrigues me.  I'd probably want to read it if it was an "end-of-the-world" book as well, but the fact that it's after and everything isn't peachy-keen that makes me want to read it.  I like nitty-gritty.
