Book Blogger Hop: 7/1-7/4 & Follow Friday

Book Blogger Hop
We are participating in the Book Blogger Hop this week! If you want to participate too head over to Crazy for Books and fill out the linky.

“What keeps you reading beyond the first few pages of a book, and what makes you want to stop reading a book and put it back on the shelf?“  I just stopped reading a book last night because the writing was too flowerly with that overtaking any plot that may have been hiding in there.  I need characters that grab me and a visible plot line to hold my interest. - Jessica

Feature & Follow Friday
This weeks featured blogger at Parajunkee's View is Erica @ Let's Talk About Books
Hello wonderful PJV readers,

My name is Erika and I have an addiction to books. Oh sorry, wrong place…

I am addicted to reading and just like any person with a passion for something, I love telling people about the books I read. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone that loves reading as much as I do. My lack of reading buddies forces me to talk my fiancée's ear off with all of my book talk. I am not sure if he processes what I say but at least he nods and smiles in the right parts. Realizing that my fiancée can only take so much, I decided to start a blog. I’ve been Blogging since 2010 but I decided to dedicate more time and commitment to Let’s talk about books about 3 months ago.

Let's talk about books is a blog dedicated to reviewing and talking about... well, books. I love reading just like you (I am assuming since you are reading a blog about books) and began this blog to keep track of what I read, inform others about it and to meet fellow readers and talk about what we read. I read books from different genres as you can see from my posts, so this blog may include contemporary fiction, YA fiction, romance, historical fiction, non-fiction, etc... I'm a lame romantic girl, so you will see that most of the books I read will have some romance. I have many favorite books but it would take hours to list them. I will just name a few that come to mind, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, The Mortal Instrument Series by Cassandra Clare, My Name is Memory by Anne Brashares and Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick.

I am always doing emergency runs/visits to my nearest Barnes & Noble, Amazon.com, and local library. So if you have any suggestions on what I should read next, just let me know. Do not hesitate to say hello, the reason for my blog is to make friends and discuss what we read.

Thanks for taking the time to learn about me and joining me in talking about books.

Thanks a million to Parajunkee for featuring me. Now I owe her cookies but it’s worth it.

And this week's question for Follow Friday is:
Q. ACK! Your favorite book/movie character (example Hermione Granger played by the Emma chick) just walked into the room! Who is it and what would be your first reaction? You get extra points if you include visual stimulation.Pam from True Blood/Sookie Stackhouse/Southern Vampire Mystery Series saunters into the room, eyeing everything cautiously, snarling at the state of things.  I sit in my chair frozen, jaw already dropped open, unsure whether to approach or cower from her.  Because seriously, it's Pam....shame on me for not wearing pink and she could kill me faster than I could pick my jaw up.

  1. I also can't stand overly descriptive passages in a book.

  2. I would've done the same as well! Sometimes if the writing style isn't what I'm used to and I can't get into it right away, I don't finish it.

    Here's my Friday Hops

    Have a GREAT weekend!

  3. Hey, I love your blog header, and your rating system... great extremes there from, "I'll read it aloud to you to make sure you've read it" vs. "I hated this book so much, I'll rip it out of your hands."

  4. I don't know why I keep reading a book. It's not the story. It's not the characters. I really don't know!

I'm hopping by to tell you that I've got a wonderful giveaway going on at my blog, Readerbuzz. It's international! During the Readerbuzz July Giveaway I'll be giving away a $25 Amazon gift card! I'd love to have you stop in and throw your name in the hat to win!

  5. These book blogger hop questions just get better and better. This one looks easy but I think it’s a trick question. We all know it’s the same answer – the writing – but we all have different perspectives of what good writing is.

Hop on over to my blog at http://www.howardsherman.net and read my three-prong answer as I explain why I’ll decide to pick up a book or put it down in under sixty seconds.

    Happy July 4th Weekend!

  6. I can't stand being confused... or when a book talks AROUND something long enough to irritate me, then I'm DONE! lol

  9. Hopping through. I think great writing is a wonderful thing, but I don't think it should ever overtake the plot. Too flowery writing drives me crazy.

  10. I am your new GFC follower. My answer to the Book Blog Hop question for this week.

I started reading a book the last month and it was suppose to be a very good book. But after giving it a couple of chapters I just couldn’t get into it. I put the book aside to read another day. I don’t like to do that because I feel as if my mind might have had too many distractions and I didn’t give the book a chance. So I always try to wait for another day to give it another go. I have so many other books calling to me from my to-be-read list that it can really be distracting. READ ME! READ ME!
I prefer reading and reviewing Christian Fiction but I do read a varity of other books. I just can’t handle too scary or gory. Suspense and Mysteries I like. No explicit adult books either if I do find one I really want to read I just skip over the x-rated stuff. So what genre do I read?
