Sounds like a great book, especially for boys. I love books geared towards boys because there seems to be so few.

I don't really like the art, so I probably wouldn't read it. I'm a little too picky when it comes to the art in graphic novels. It has to be visually appealing for me to really get into it. But the story doesn't sound too bad.
